Self-portrait with moon rising over the James River on July 21st, 2016. Canon 550D, Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens @ f/4.0, exposure: 30sec @ISO200, custom white balance. |
Caught the moon rising over the James River tonight from a beach on the Colonial Parkway near Jamestown. Clouds and haze conspired to redden the moon which looked really cool just after it topped the horizon. Light pollution from Norfolk and Hampton also illuminate the sky orange/yellow in this photo. I made no attempts to correct the light pollution color cast because I like the monochromatic delivery. Processing is bare-bones - boost the shadows slightly, add a contrast curve and apply lens corrections with Lightroom. I liked the image straight out of the camera, so no need to fiddle with knobs that don't need fiddling.
